Randomized DUI Checkpoints in Hollywood

Known most commonly for the reams of celebrities that have walked its star-studded streets, Hollywood has now become a place of new interest for the Los Angeles Police Department. This past week, a random DUI checkpoint operated from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on the intersection of Gower Street and Hollywood Boulevard. All drivers who were driving under the influence were expected to face immediate incarceration.

Jail time is not the only consequence for those driving impaired. Those arrested will also face potential insurance increases, court probation, DUI classes, license suspension, and hefty fines. Hollywood has ceased to be a city of dreams for those who party late. Instead, it has evolved into a city that puts safety and security above the enjoyment of alcohol.

The checkpoint at Hollywood and Gower will not be the last to pop up in the Hollywood area. LAPD has plans for a series of random checkpoints, supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. According to Sgt. Mitchel Windsor from the LAPD West Traffic Division, "checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies."

With such good results, the sobriety checkpoint is going to become much more popular in law enforcement. Yet even with the large amount of irresponsible drivers on the road, a DUI is never a cut and dry situation. A DUI charge does not end with an arrest. If you have been arrested or charged with a DUI as a result of a checkpoint or other field test, now is the time to fight.

Field tests are administered in bulk, which leaves room for mistakes. While both physical and mental functionality are tested, the procedures are commonly flawed due to their lack of scientific precision. At Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP they understand your plight. The dedicated team has a quality attorney ready to help you defend your DUI charge with professional precision. Contact Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP today to learn how they can dispute your field test results.
