Rodney King Charged with DUI, Pleads Guilty to Reckless Driving

In summer of 2011, Rodney King (made famous during the 1992 Los Angeles riots), was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in Moreno Valley, California. After entering into a plea agreement, King entered into house arrest for twenty days. After pleading guilty to reckless driving, King had the DUI charges dropped, but was still required to pay a $500 fine and had to take place in a sobriety education program for nine months.

The arrest took place in July of last year when King had been driving his Mitsubishi through Moreno Valley, about an hour outside of Los Angeles, CA. In the interviews that followed the arrest, King admitted to media outlets that he had been under the influence of prescription medical marijuana, but had not been driving drunk. Prosecutors involved in the case reported that his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) had been at 0.05 percent – which was still under the legal limit.

At Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, we strongly believe in protecting people from wrongful accusations. If you have recently been criminally charged with drunk driving even though your BAC was under the legal limit, do not hesitate to give a Los Angeles DUI lawyer from our firm a call.
